The Sensory Experience

We provided one hour fully personalised sessions in our state-of-the-art multi-sensory room for young people with disabilities and their carers. This was followed by tea/coffee and cake after the session. Carers had the choice to stay or how they wanted to spend their time.

Renfrewshire Creative Breaks Fund

We provided grants directly to carers who live in Renfrewshire and care for someone over the age of 21 years, to plan and pay for a break of their choice.

Renfrewshire Young Carers Project

We ran a music and asthma management project in Renfrewshire for Young Carers using wind instruments as a tool for asthma self management. The project is focussed on making learning about asthma self-management through playing a wind instrument fun.

SHAYP Summer Camp 2016

We provided a5-day summer camp for 35 young carers, aged 8-25 years old, living in a family affected by Huntington’s disease.

The camp included a range of daytime and evening activities as well as one-to-one and group sessions with Scottish Huntington’s Association Specialist Youth Advisors, on the issues surrounding Huntington’s disease and being a young carer.

Scottish Disability Sport Junior Summer Camp

To support the continuation of a fully managed, all-inclusive annual multi-sport, pan-disability residential sports camp held at Badaguish Activity Centre. The camps are three days long, very positive and intensive for participants and a great chance for carer respite sustained through increased activity.

Demand for the camps is growing and we cannot expand places or provide additional equipment.

Corseford School Summer Club 2016

We provided a 2 week Summer Club, including transport and intensive staffing, for 14 children with complex support needs.

One tailored week for older and one for younger pupils. An activity and play based club for children unable to access community run schemes due to their high level care needs.

We provided a Mission Discovery and Adventure Week for 24 deaf children and young people aged 8-15 and 12 were aged 16-18. This took place at Blairvadach on 1-5 August 2016.

We provided a 4-day group summer activity programme for up to 30 children and young people with cerebral palsy and related conditions.

This physically active and challenging programme, led by therapists, aimed to provide fun activities to help improve the children and young people’s functional postural and mobility skills, enabling their parents/carers to get a break and/or spend time with siblings.

Holiday Fun

We ran a variety of fun outings during the school holidays for families with a child with disabilities providing fun and stimulating activities for the children. Working parent carers and carers under stress had the opportunity to receive respite helping them stay in employment and/or get a break from their caring role.
