Social & Emotional Support to Deaf Children and their Families

West Scotland Deaf Children’s Society provides social and emotional support to deaf children and their families.

Better breaks funding enabled us to offer many opportunities for our young people to meet and mix with an age appropriate peer group at our Saturday Sign Activity Club, a youth group and in partnership with St Roch’s Secondary School an after school club.

We provided grants directly to carers who care for a child or adult with profound and multiple learning disabilities, and live in Scotland.

We provided grants directly to carers who care for a child who has Down’s Syndrome and who live with them.

We provided Family Day Activities for children with disabilities and their families, promoting access to a range of local sport and leisure activities that they would not have otherwise had the confidence to access.

To support the continuation of an annual multi-sport, pan disability residential sports camp held at Largs National Sports Centre in July 2014.

Demand for the camps is growing and we cannot expand places or provide additional equipment. The camps are three days long, very positive and intensive for participants and a great chance for carer respite.

RNIB Activate

RNIB Activate delivered a programme of activities for children and young people living with sight loss and their families across Scotland.

To provide grants for short breaks directly to carers who live in Dumfries and Galloway. Any Carer can apply to the fund and they do not need to be registered with the Carers Centre.
