We ran a pilot programme which delivered these activities in Falkirk, 57 Play and Chat Sessions, 49 Play and Youth Activities, 23 Opportunity PLUS Sessions, 11 1:1 Sessions and 3 Family Events.

Better Breaks Social Group Falkirk

We provided monthly youth groups for young people with a learning disability, the group were offered a programme of trips including, Dynamic Earth, Scottish Parliament, Stirling Castle, Linlithgow Canal, Scottish Rugby at Murrayfield, Transport Museum, Calendar House Estate and Muiravonside Country Park.

In addition to this we offered two activity camps a year at outdoor education centres in Aviemore and Edinburgh were young people took part in a range of adventurous outdoor activities .

Short Breaks for Children with Additional Support Needs and their Families

We delivered 5 short breaks activity days for children with additional support needs and their families, these outing took place at Glasgow Science Centre, Christmas Pantomime’s and Dynamic Earth.

This enabled families to spend quality time together, building relationships and providing a break from the everyday stresses of caring.

We provided a 1 week activity break for 11-14 year olds and two residential weekends for 15-18 year old with vision impairment to promote their independence and allow respite for parents/carers. We provided family days across the country offering peer support and a break from the normal routine.

We provided activities and training courses to support carers and their families. There were art groups, mindfulness training courses, education courses, and breaks within our centre. This allowed carers opportunities to get a break and to meet others in similar situations.

The Family and Carer Support Service is a successful part of FDAMH who offer a wide range of quality services to the local community,  one-to-one support, regular support groups and carers education and training courses.

Scottish Disability Sport Junior Summer Camp

We provided a fully-supported, managed, all-inclusive residential multi-sports and activity camp for 35 youngsters at the newly refurbished accessible Inverclyde Centre in Largs.

The camp was four days long and provides a positive, inclusive and active environment for youngsters aged 10-18 with a physical or sensory impairment.

SHAYP Summer Camp 2017

We provided a 5-day summer camp for 35 young people, aged 8 – 25 years old, living in a family affected by Huntington’s Disease.

The camp included a range of daytime and evening activities as well as one-to-one and group sessions with Scottish Huntington’s Association Specialist Youth Advisors, on the issues surrounding Huntington’s disease and being a young carer.

Adventure Under Sail for Young Carers

We provided five residential 5 day sail training voyages for young carers in 2017.

The holistic voyage experience sailing around the Scottish coast enabled young carers to develop new interests and skills, lasting friendships, and lead their own life outwith their caring responsibilities.

We provided grants directly to carers who are caring for person(s) living with dementia living in Scotland.

Being a national organisation we offer the same opportunity all applicants no matter their geographical location, giving them a break from their caring role.
