Adventure Breaks for Young People

We provided Adventure Breaks an exciting partnership between Quarriers, Outfit Moray and its partners Earthtime and the Elgin Youth Café and Elgin High School.

Adventure Breaks aimed to make outdoor learning and adventure accessible to all, irrespective of ability, financial position or location and provided activities such as abseiling, canoeing and mountain biking to actively develop potential by building self-confidence, growing self-esteem, encouraging life skills, increasing happiness and improving health and well-being.

Stay and Play Moray

Quarriers provided fun activities at weekends, evenings and during school holidays for children with multiple additional needs at multiple community venues across Moray.

Carers, parents and family members were invited to stay and play with their children and/or join in with short break activities such as health, beauty and yoga sessions.

Moray Big Kids Club

This year the club organised a series of 2-3 day residential breaks in addition to our clubs which allowed for extended quality breaks for their carers.

The Big Kids Club provides a wide range of fun and challenging outdoor activities for 30 young people multiple support needs.

Moray Breaks

We provided grants directly to carers who live in Moray, to plan and pay for a short break of their choice.

Dementia Adventure Moray

We provided short breaks for Carers and people with Dementia living in Moray, re-engaging people with their environment. There were a mix of day and residential breaks delivered in partnership with Dementia Adventure and Newbold House Trust in Forres, involving different local providers.

We provided a Mission Discovery and Adventure Week for 24 deaf children and young people aged 8-15 and 12 were aged 16-18. This took place at Blairvadach on 1-5 August 2016.

We provided a 4-day group summer activity programme for up to 30 children and young people with cerebral palsy and related conditions.

This physically active and challenging programme, led by therapists, aimed to provide fun activities to help improve the children and young people’s functional postural and mobility skills, enabling their parents/carers to get a break and/or spend time with siblings.

We provided regular networking and peer support opportunities for carers of children with additional needs.

The whole family could benefit through structured activities, parents could have a break together, or parents could leave their children and have a break themselves.

The Highland Cycle Ability Centre provided a safe, tranquil, traffic-free environment for people of all abilities to cycle.

Individuals as well as groups of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder utilised the facilities with staff members on hand to encourage, accompany and/or teach the young people as appropriate.

Cornerstone’s Big Kids Club provided a range of outdoor activities for 30 young people with multiple support needs, enabling participation in fun and challenging activities with friends and peers for 6.5 hours per day during school holidays.

This allows time for quality breaks for families and carers so that they refreshed and better able to attend to their caring responsibilities.
