A Break from the Norm

Our project supported older people and their unpaid carers to maintain their wellbeing, improve their quality of life and remain connected with their communities through the provision of a variety of short break opportunities and group holidays.

Surf's Up and Away

This project gave Young Carers from across Mid Argyll, Kintyre and Islay respite from their caring role through a 2 day adventure residential at Lochgoilhead Outdoor Centre, and regular access to local activities such as surfing lessons and pony club.

Me Time

We provided activities for mental health carers including those from hardly reached communities to participate in “Me Time” health and wellbeing sessions and social outings.

Sessions included pampering, relaxation, self-management tips and arts and crafts focusing on fun time out from caring.

Callums' Caravan - PAMIS Breaks

Callum’s Caravan provided short breaks in a fully accessible caravan at Haggerstone Castle, a holiday village near Berwick upon Tweed, for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their families/carers.

MECOPP organised a programme of short breaks for carers, and those they care for, from the Gypsy/Traveller community in Scotland.

These culturally appropriate breaks promoted positive wellbeing, reduced isolation and increased knowledge about carer services in local communities.

Community Central Hall delivered an on-going activity programme for vulnerable Cared-for Older People 65+ during this time their Carer(s) received much-needed time to themselves.

This helping both target groups re-integrate back into the community to tackle their isolation/loneliness, regain their independence, and experiences.

We provided four five-day breaks at various locations throughout Britain for young adults affected by life-long disabilities so that they could have fun away from the regular routine with a group of their friends and our staff and giving their entire families and carers some well-deserved respite.

Time Out

Time Out provided regular friendship and support groups in Lanarkshire for young people who are affected by their siblings’ disability and who often take on a caring role.

Groups lasted two hours and took place in the local community for 8-15 year olds giving them time for themselves.

Ayrshire Cancer Support delivered holistic carer support groups for anyone living in Ayrshire over the age of 16 years of age who is caring for someone who has been affected by a cancer diagnosis.

We provided weekly evening classes in woodwind music tuition and asthma management for Young Carers with Asthma living in Renfrewshire.

We offered opportunities for Young Carers with Asthma to manage their Asthma, pursue self development opportunities and overcome the isolation, whilst providing respite from their caring situation.
