No Limits Kielder Holiday 2015
A story by No Limits
We are a multi- sportsclub for children and young people with a disability in the East Central Scotland area and we specialise in providing sporting and social opportunities. We also organise weekend activity breaks and week long activity holidays.
What No Limits Kielder Holiday 2015 did
We took 40 people (members and their carers and two volunteers)for a week long activity holiday including full board at the Calvert Trust Holiday Centre in Kielder, Northumbria at a cost of £710 per person.
They took part in the following activities, Crate Stacking ,Velcro Olympics, Sailing, Canoeing, Power Boating, Archery, Orienteering, Climbing, Absailing, Zip Wiring, High Ropes, Clay Pigeon Shooting and a host of games and problem solving exercises.
We also arranged a day visit to the Blue Reef Aquarium at Tynemouth. At night time social activities including quizzes, karaoke and a talent contest were organised. These opportunities are limited to people who are members of the club, the chance to take part is advertised internally by e- mail, poster and by word of mouth .
What No Limits has learned
That not everyone can cope with the intensity of the experience- some people were not prepared for the pace of the daily programmes.
When delegating tasks it is better to make one person responsible for a task rather than a group of people.
When splitting the party into groups ensure there is a balance of abilities i.e. don't have to many wheelchair users in one group. as this can impact on the time available for activities.
